Control arms can be classified according to their position in the suspension as upper control arms and lower control arms.

According to their structural shape, control arms can be classified as A-shaped (wishbone) control arms, L-shaped control arms, and straight control arms, etc.

According to their material, control arms are mainly made of steel (including high-strength steel), cast iron, aluminum alloy, and hollow control arms.

According to their suspension type, double wishbone (double lateral arm) independent suspensions typically use two control arms, upper and lower; MacPherson strut independent suspensions typically have only one L-shaped lower control arm; and multi-link independent suspensions may contain multiple control arms (links).
